SIMON Cowell is creating an American boy band.
The music mogul — who has his own record label Syco — is in the early stages of putting together a pop group to conquer the US market and has been in talks with a number of producers and songwriters to create the right sound.
A source told JustJared: “Simon is really excited to form a group of guys from America. He’s done such a fine job with British boys, so he’s ready to try his hand in America. He’s looking for the right people to team up with and create their sound.”
Meanwhile, Simon’s UK and Irish boy band One Direction — who were formed on UK TV show The X Factor — are enjoying success in the US with their debut single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, which has placed at 28 on the Hot 100 chart.
Their PR company Hackford Jones tweeted: “One Direction have debuted at No.28 in the US Hot 100 chart. It’s the highest US chart debut for a UK act in over 14 years.”
The group, comprised of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, have been making a name for themselves in America where recently filmed a guest appearance on Nickelodeon’s ‘iCarly’ and are set to support Big Time Rush on tour.
